Description:

Spode's Lucano pattern, depicting the Lucano Bridge near Tivoli (east of Rome), is printed here in underglaze blue on an earthenware tea plate.   This view was probably based on the  acquatint of  The Bridge of  Lucano seen below  by James Merigot, published in 1798 in A Select Collection of Views and Ruins in Rome and Its Vicinity - Executed from Drawings Made Upon the Spot in the Year 1791
