Floral & Botanical

Floral and floral-based designs were employed on both painted and printed wares throughout this first period in the company's history.  These patterns had great appeal to customers and, as such, played an important role within Spode's large selection of underglaze printed patterns. They were printed on a wide range of wares and, after 1824, in several colors. Three important series of patterns evolved:  Botanical, British Flowers and Floral.  A common border pattern was designed for each series to be used on all shapes produced for that series.  Designers then created a different central pattern for each shape.

Many individual patterns were also produced and these were often made in a variety of colors.
