Description: The pattern on this sauce tureen is number 1584, based on an original Chinese design. It is printed and colored in underglaze, and the rim is enameled over the glaze in black. Decorative black enameling was also added to the finial. The only mark is the hand painted pattern number. Spode produced this pattern in at least seven color variations, each with different pattern numbers. This piece is part of a dessert set. Other pieces from the set are included in the shapes section of this exhibition.
