Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares

  • Diameter: 8.7 in inches

This second version of the Rock pattern, Rock II, is printed in blue underglaze on an 8.66 inch octagonally shaped bone china plate.  It is dated 1800-1810.   This is the second of two Rock patterns developed by Spode (Rock I is also included in this exhibit). This central pattern varies considerably from the first version as does the border pattern. An early pattern, it is c. 1800-1810. Robert Copeland identifies the outer border pattern as Lattice Panels, a pattern derived from a Chinese original pattern. The inner border is of a honeycomb design.
