This example of the pattern was printed on a round earthenware plate in blue underglaze with over the glaze enameling in a second color. This design is rarely found in plain blue. The first enameled version was introduced in 1812. Robert Copeland has identified a Chinese porcelain pattern that was copied by Spode to produce the Bowpot pattern.
