Workmen's Marks - Painted

Marks applied by transfer-printers were first painted on then later printed on each piece in order to identify the work of both the printer and the team.  This was an essential method of identifying workmen's efforts because the transfer-printer was only paid when the object had been successfully fired and determined ready for market.
