Pattern Category: Based on Chinese Originals Object Type: Wares for Breakfast and Tea Dimensions: Source: Chinese Original Description:
The Rock pattern is an early design inspired by a Chinese export pattern painted on porcelain. Rock I was developed along with the Mandarin pattern. It differs from Mandarin in
that there are only 3 branches on the willow tree whereas the tree in the Mandarin
pattern has 4. The pattern is pre-1800 and is shown here on an earthenware saucer with gilded rim. The border copies some of the elements of the Chinese original but not all. The border is also used on Forest Landscape I and II. Drakard/Holdway Pattern Number P608-1 Mark Types and IDsWorkman's Mark Painted WMP1
