Portland Vase, Variation

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 13.5 inches
  • Height: 1.75 inches

Description:

This pattern was printed in green underglaze on a large dish or charger.  It is a variation of the original pattern with the same name, also included in this exhibit.  In this version, there are more flowers added to the vase.  In spite of its name, the vase does not resemble the original Roman vase for which the pattern was named.  Considered of uncommon Spode design, it is c. 1831.  This pattern was re-issued during the Copeland and Garrett period and again in the 1920's.
